The USA Basketball Women’s National Team’s announced the first wave of players who will take part in the USA exhibition games on Jan. 27 at the University of Connecticut, and Feb. 2 at the University of Louisville.
Heading the roster is Seattle Storms star, Breanna Stewart, who is making her return to basketball for the first time since rupturing her Achilles in April 2019.
Other players who are set to compete for Team USA in the coming weeks are: Layshia Clarendon (Suns),Tina Charles (Liberty), Sylvia Fowles (Lynx), Angel McCoughtry (Dream), Nneka Ogwumike (Sparks), Diana Taurasi (Mercury), Skylar Diggins-Smith (Wings) and A’ja Wilson (Aces).
Following the college exhibitions at Connecticut and Louisville, Team USA will continue preparations for their seventh-straight Olympic gold medal as participants in the 2020 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, set for Feb. 6-9.
Basketball Hall-of-Famer Dawn Staley will take the helm as Team USA’s head coach following the conclusion of the South Carolina Gamecocks’ 2020 college season.
