Jaguars (0-1) vs. Texans (0-1) week 2.
Last meeting: Week 17, December 30, 2018 in Houston, Texas (Texans def. Jaguars 20-3)
Week 2 is looking like a gift wrap game!
This is because when the Jacksonville Jaguars step in between the lines of NRG Stadium for the opening kickoff, they will be playing without CB A.J. Bouye, QB Nick Foles, WR Marqise Lee, DE Yannick Ngakoue, and LT Cam Robinson. For the Texans, this is great news. Though I believe they still would have a great chance of winning even if all were playing.
For the first time in a while, the Texans will be playing the Jaguars with uncertainty at QB. Gardner Minshew will be the starting QB for the Jaguars in this game. Minshew is coming off an impressive performance against the Kansas City Chiefs. In that game, Minshew recorded 22/28 passes, 275 yards, 2 TD’s, and an interception. Though the Jaguars didn’t get the win, there is a chance that Minshew could come into Houston and perform well, even lead them to a victory.
If the Texans want to win this game, they must be extremely focus. The game plan is simple, take care of business at home. The Texans are a better team than the Jaguars. They must act like it today and get a key division win. The question is, will they?
Texans fans know that the Texans will tend to play down to the levels of competition. They almost lost to the Bills last season, a team they were much better than. They also went down to the wire with the New York Jets last season. There’s always the chance that the Texans will play down to a lesser skilled opponent. If they do it Sunday, I believe Minshew is talented enough to steal a much needed victory.
With all of this being said, this game will go either two ways:
1. Minshew will steal a win in his debut.
The Texans could still be tired from last Monday’s shootout to the Saints. The Texans offensive line could get absolutely dominated by the Jaguars defensive line in the run and the pass, shutting down the offense. The Jaguars could win the turnover battle. Ramsey could erase Hopkins from the game. Leonard Fournette could be a bell cow and run the ball down the Texans throat until the defense taps out. Lastly, Minshew can be a game manager who makes a play when needed. If all of this happens, the Jaguars will walk out of NRG Stadium with a win. This is a result of the Texans once again playing down to their opponents, which we all have seen before.
2. The Texans win in convincing fashion.
Knowing that the Texans let a victory slip their hands last week, the Texans come into this game with laser focus. The offense has an even better performance this game than last week. The run game is once again playing great, and Hopkins once again dismantles Jalen Ramsey. The defense feels embarrassed with giving up 27 points in the 2nd half of last week’s game, so they completely shut down Minshew and the Jaguars offense. No doubt, the Texans are more talented than the Jaguars, and they play like it today. The Texans win in dominating fashion.
I underestimated the Texans last week. I predicted them to lose by 8 last week against the Saints, and they were a career long FG away from pulling off the upset. Knowing this, the Texans will use that as motivation coming into this game and defeat the Jaguars. With Andre Luck retiring and Nick Foles being out until week 11, the Texans have no excuse to not win the division this season. They will kick it off by winning their first division game at home today.
Final Score: Jaguars 10 Texans 27
