After the Eagles surprisingly traded the Ravens for the 22nd pick, one pick before Houston, they picked Andre Dillard.
Houston reportedly wanted Dillard, and they were so close to getting him. Still needing an OT, the Texans selected Alabama State’s Tytus Howard.
Howard is listed at a massive 6’5 322 lbs. He was a stud at Alabama State, posting a 87.8 pass blocking grade. Coming from a small school, it will be interesting to see how will he transition to the NFL.
This pick was a reach. If Andre Dillard was the Texans guy, I’d rather have selected a CB (Hello Greedy Williams) or gotten the best player available and address the OT position in the 2nd round.
Of course, I’m hoping that Howard proves me wrong and becomes the answer to protecting Deshaun Watson. Only time will tell whether this was a good pick or not.
Until then, welcome to the Texans Howard!
