Houston Texans: Texans offer Tyrann Mathieu long term deal

Two days before the NFL opens free agency, the Houston Texans have offered Tyrann Mathieu a long term deal to stay in Houston.

According to several reports, the Houston Texans have made it their top priority to resign free agent Tyrann Mathieu, and have offered their first pitch. According to Albert Breer of Monday Morning Quarterback, the Texans have offered Mathieu a deal that would pay the All-Pro safety $9.5 million per year.

Despite the deal, Breer went on to report that Honey Badger intends to test the market, which means that his chances of returning to Houston just severely decreased.

According to Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle, Mathieu will gain multiple interests from teams around the league, which includes the Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs, two teams who have been linked to Mathieu in the past. As well as Mathieu’s hometown team, the New Orleans Saints, who would love to upgrade their talent at safety.

During his first year in Houston, Mathieu was a huge contributor to the Texans’ success last season. Voted as the team captain at the start of the year, the former LSU Tiger had a solid season recording two interceptions and 70 solo tackles for the Texans.
